General information
Le Village Catalan is a
small village of 12 houses in the microclimatic foothills of snow-capped
Canigou in the Pyrenees, between the ski resorts and the Mediterranean.
It is known to have the best climate in France, with an average 300 days
of sunshine per year, and it is rich on history, culture and natural beauty.
In the past Vernet-les-Bains has been the favoured health resort of the British aristocracy, witnessed by the extravagant architecture of the casino and the parks. Europe’s largest wilderness area, the Pyrenees start just behind the village, with excellent opportunities for leisure activities, from hiking through mountain biking and fishing. A nearby waterfall has been named after the British - Cascades des Anglais. Famous Carcassonne, the tax free mini state Andorra, Spain and the Mediterranean beaches can be reached on day-trips.
Our holiday village is situated 5 minutes walk from Vernet -les-Bains centre, with all facilities - shops, restaurants and cafés, a sports centre, casino, thermal spa . Le Village Catalan comprises one, two and three bedroom houses on two levels, containing lounge with wooden beams and fireplace, kitchen, bathroom and all are equipped with simple but robust furnishing.
The architcture is medieval Catalan, but built as recent as the 1970s - it took ten years to build - and partly refurbished in 1998-2005. Each house is different and half the houses are built in granite stone. Each house has a private, sunny terrace with spectacular, unobstructible views of Vernet Les Bains, the valleys and the mountains. Six of the houses also have a private patio (courtyard).
Type A: 3-bedroom house:
Ground level: Entrance and
lounge with exposed beams, kitchen, stairway, double terrace. Lower level: 3 bedrooms (double, twin and kidsuite with bunk beds w/o exterior window), bathroom, WC, hall. 6/8 persons.
Type B: 2-bedroom houses:
Ground level: hall, WC,
lounge, small kitchen and terrace. Lower level: 2 bedrooms, bathroom, hall.
Some have a Kidsuite w/o exterior window. Some houses also have a private patio. 4/7 persons.
Type C: 1½ bedroom
houses:
Ground level: small lounge,
small kitchen, WC and terrace. Lower level: 1 bedroom with en suite bathroom,
Some have an additional children's bedroom "Kidsuite" w/o exterior window. Some houses
also have a private patio. 2/4 persons.

Kidsuite and Patio houses: 3 houses have "Kidsuite", a small additional room with bunk beds. We offer a choice with different pricing for reservation of houses with private patio (small courtyard with privacy), subject to availability. TV is optional, can be hired (currently 23 Euros/week).

Answer to a frequently asked question: A private plunge pool has been installed in the garden of our village, and there is a larger public pool down in Vernet-les-Bains, as well as hot springs pools in the thermal centre just minutes from the houses. There are also rock pools in a nearby river, a beach at the lake at Vinca 35 kms from the village, and if you really need the crowded Mediterranean beaches they are within reach by car, 70 kms from the village.
